The Assassin’s Blade: New Heroine

The Assassin’s Blade: New Heroine

The Heroine We Need

Oh, this book. So many emotions about this book.

STORIES

Okay, let’s start from the beginning. The Assassin’s Blade is divided into 5 different (short) stories: The Assassin and The Pirate Lord, The Assassin and The Healer, The Assassin and The Desert, The Assassin and The Underworld, The Assassin and The Empire.

Every one of them follows Celaena’s new adventure and reveals bits of her character. The first story, The Assassin and The Pirate Lord, I didn’t like so much, which means it was a bit slow beginning for me. I quickly fell disappointed only to discover later on how brilliant writer Sarah J. Maas is! If the first story is a little bit slow paced, then every next one is amazingly written and I have read it all in one breath.

CHARACTERS

My favorite story was The Assassin and The Desert. It was magical, it was kind, it was cruel and it definitely was heartbreaking. Every character is crafted beautifully, everyone has a back story and their own tragic history (and/or destiny). In this story Celaena learned how to trust, how to love and how to be merciful. Never matter that her heart got bruised because of this. If Sarah J. Maas published just this story alone, it would be still brilliant.

NOTE TO THE ASPIRING WRITERS: read this story, if nothing else.
Learn how to create amazing characters, likable but brutal, honest but naive. See how one can create magical setting and expose the characters to inhuman pain, just to make them grow even more. This is the story that got me in love with Sarah J. Maas.

Yes, the other one has THE ending (not gonna say, spoilers), but this one here, this one is pure magic.

FAVORITE QUOTES

If you can learn to endure pain, you can survive anything. Some people learn to embrace it- to love it. Some endure it through drowning it in sorrow, or by making themselves forget. Others turn it into anger.

She tensed, already taking in every detail she could. But she squared her shoulders. Straightened her spine. “My name is Celaena Sardothien,” she whispered, “and I will not be afraid.

She would tuck Sam into her heart, a bright light for her to take out whenever things were darkest.
